Contrary to popular belief
Everybody in the world has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Of course there are degrees of impact.
For the last 6 months, business, big and small, and people, privileged and disfranchised, have struggled to find a way, the way, to make sense of a new normal.
Innovation came by the hand of an unexpected business, the National Basketball league in the US or NBA.
They announced this week that an early investment of $500,000 and partnership with Yale University has delivered a revolutionary saliva-based test that is quicker, more affordable and as reliable as other coronavirus tests.
What is really surprising is why the NBA did that early investment….
Without healthy players there is no NBA.
Without healthy fans, there is no NBA.
Without a healthy community there are no sports.
We believe that this holistic approach to business is the most transformative and defining trend of our time for companies, Human Resources managers and leaders worldwide.
Perhaps some skeptics would argue that the real success of a business is based on squeezing the most productivity out of every employee. Or that professional adults realized that a business is war, and hard work and sacrifice will make X inc. The Winner! The Best! The Number 1!
Some of us at Coteam come from corporate worlds where being busy, stressed and overworked were badges of honour, success and power.
Stress has become so common and accepted in the corporate world that 83% of American workers suffer from work-related stress.
Yet stress remains a silent cause of poor physical health (fatigue, aches and pains, weight gain) and compromised mental health (depression, anxiety, anger).
This is not sustainable any longer.
We believe that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. That an employee is a whole person, and servicing the whole employee wellbeing is primordial for the success of the whole business. The social, emotional, physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing of your employees is the most critical area of development for your company today. Because if a business is the people who make it possible, those people need to be able to thrive fully.
There are no healthy outcomes without healthy behaviours and habits. Not anymore. The world has changed because of Covid-19. And because we were forced to pause and to observe and to reflect we realised that health is truly the most important asset we manage daily.
And we are not alone, Harvard Business Review recently published an article about the future of HR and identified the Director of Wellbeing as one of the most important within the next decade.
“the role of Director of Wellbeing could provide strategic management over wellness and design services and practices to nurture the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual health of all employees. We are already seeing some companies hiring for the Director of Wellbeing role, and expect to see more within the decade as we believe the future of work will increasingly be the future of worker wellbeing.”
A holistic approach to human management is going to give your company the necessary edge in attracting, nourishing and keeping the right talent. One where a person can pursue strength instead of power, balance instead of comfort, or focus instead of performance.
At Coteam, we have the vision, the experience and the conviction to transform your company and your people with the right set of habits, where you no longer expend energy deciding what to do. You remove action from self-negotiation and you are at your best, fully and wholly.
We envision a world where every company invests in their people’s wellbeing.
Because without healthy people, there is no business.
